Out and about

Last Saturday before the 4th, we met our friends Julia and Mike down at the Center for Wooden Boats for their festival. Lots of wooden boats were docked all around and the kids got to tour them. I stayed on dock and tried not to fall into the water while taking pictures and having Franklin in a sling. LOL

G.I. Joe reporting for service Sir!

4th of July Monday we had some new friends over for a BBQ- my first attempt at baby back ribs and they were so good! Our friends brought chicken too and the kids had hot dogs- Stephen got a crash course in how to BBQ all these meats on his charcoal grill.

The rest of the week included a trip to the zoo (my first outing with all 3 by myself) and rose gardens, a Dr's appt for Franklin (the big guy is in the 95th percentile for weight, 85th for height) and a birthday party for Odessa and trip downtown by bus for Ada, Franklin and I. Whew!! Considering the week before we went NOWHERE, this was a little more than I wanted to handle.

We start them on meat a little early around here. And "why is everyone so enamored with my hair?"

The next day his hair was greased down post bath and it makes him look so old!!

This last Saturday we met friends at Alki to watch the Pirates land on Alki beach. Frankly, I wish they would sail in on a tall ship and not a military boat accompanied by navy crew.

This Fire Ship was much cooler

A Jack Sparrow look a like was really funny to observe on the boardwalk

Chillin under the umbrella on Alki. We also went back to Alki this Monday and poked around the tide pool side with our friends the Viswanathans and the rest of the week we have relaxed and stayed home.

This morning's conversation at breakfast was a quick-fire back and forth between the girls before I could get any words in edgewise:

Odessa: Mom, do you like being a mom?
Me: Yes, I do.
Odessa: Yah, because you get to drive around and buy things . . .
Ada: And wear make-up and earrings . . . .
Odessa: And boss people around . . .
Ada: boss your KIDS . . .
Odessa: Most importantly (I am waiting here for her real nugget of wisdom). . . you get to ride roller coasters
Ada: and do whatever you want. . . but you know who gets to boss the most? DAD!
Odessa: And you get to buy tickets for your kids and watch them ride rides.

And there you have it- my job in a nutshell.
